Preventative: Pulmicort (inhaled steroid) 2 times a day through nebulizer
Rescue: Albuterol every four hours as needed
When to use Albuterol: bad cough, retractions, grunting, belly breathing
Call doctor if Albuterol doesn't help.
Caleb started wheezing about a year ago, and they told me that if he continued to wheeze when he got colds, it could be asthma. For whatever reason, I just knew Caleb would have asthma. Now it is officially diagnosed. He does pretty well with the nebulizer (what he's wearing in the picture) and he seems to be sleeping a lot better since we started his asthma medication. So with tubes in his ears and preventative asthma stuff, I'm hoping that we can take care of him at home for the most part and not need to go to the doctor so much. We have a follow up visit in six weeks or so where we'll see how he is doing on the pulmicort and then we'll ween him off and wait to see how he does. I believe this is so we can figure out what kind of triggers his asthma. I feel really good about what we're doing for Caleb and I've just been waiting for them to tell me he really did have asthma, so now we're going forward.

Now this is not fun, but good that you can now help him at home! Thomas never did have full blown asthma, but we did use the albuterol regularly with colds and now he is much better. HOpefully Caleb will get better, not worse, with age!
Poor kid! Poor mommy and daddy. Thank heavens for medicine, hope he continues to do well on it (mostly so we can play!)
I love the little masks he has. It cracks me up how he'll find the nebulizer and go try to turn it on by himself so he can get the treatments and start breathing better. CUTE KID!
Oh been there done all of that. Kaylee has asthma too. Pulmocurt is great. Albuteral makes her crazy and Xopenex is also fantastic but our insurance won't cover it. Hope Caleb will start to feel better. What will matching tubes in their ears and now asthma Caleb and Kaylee could be medical twins. Good luck!!!
What a trooper! Is that a smile beneath the mask?? I hope this works for him.
Isaac was diagnosed with exercise induced asthma this winter. I was so thankful to have an answer. He feels like he can fully participate in soccer now. Thank heavens for allergy and immunology doctors!
Oh, sorry! But I guess it is good that you caught it young. We always thought my sister was just out of shape and a major wimp-- till she got diagnosed IN COLLEGE!! Wow, my mom felt really bad about that.
I know how you feel. Noah had bronchialitis about three times this past winter, and I think he probably has asthma, especially since I have it too. I'm glad that you now have stuff to help him at home. Good luck.
