Victory, Victory
Last Friday Mike passed prelims, which consisted of an 80 page paper, a 45 minute presentation on that paper and two hours of being grilled about his past and proposed research. It's been a big project that he's been working towards for months, and he passed. His committee's only complaint was that he was trying to do a PhD-in-a-half and he needed to pare down. If he pares down they think that if he stays focused he can be done by December. I told his adviser that I really want him done by December, because Mike's dad offered to let us move in with him until Mike has a job. So Mike's a little upset that I'm hoping for him to finish soon and be jobless, but the thought of a bigger house, a fenced-in backyard, a California winter and last but not least, being around Mike's dad a bunch is really, really appealing. We'll see what happens. Mike's adviser said I should tell Mike I'm leaving in January no matter what so that Mike will stay focused. :)

Yay!! Congratulations to Mike!! Though the thought of you guys escaping another frigid Michigan winter and moving to Cali is exciting, we'll be sad to see you guys leave this side of the country. It's been fun while it lasted--I guess we'll have to make the best of the next 8 months!!
Congrats to Mike, and to the whole family backing him up. For purely selfish reasons, I hope it takes him another 5 years to finish the dissertation...
Way to go Mike!! Now about that leaving in Dec not sure how I feel about that but I'm happy that you might get a Cal winter instead of a Michigan one. Maybe I'll come visit in Feb. ;p
I think Cali is where you need to come! (At least for the winter) But remember...housing prices are dropping!!!

WOW! That is great!! I would love to have a warm winter myself..wait, I would like a warm spring!! Weather has just been crazy, it's supposed to rain and snow again this week. The rain I can handle, but enough snow already!! By the way, you've been tagged!! Check out my blog!

What?? You can't leave in December/Jan!! That's when it is horrible here and we don't need anymore downers, and this would be a huge downer!! Ok, not for you, but for the rest of us! Hmm, I just don't think I have anything positive to say.... Oh, I guess way to go Mike (in a very sarcastic tone!)

I think it's a great idea you living with Dad till you find a job you like...Cause maybe then I'll get a chance at seeing you guys when we come and visit! You know, ya'll are always welcome in Texas!

And-what a compliment to Mike's family that you want to move in with them. I wish I could say that about my in-laws, but sadly, I can not!
